Get your home ready for an electric vehicle charger with two types of rebates

To qualify, you must either meet the program’s income requirements or live in a designated disadvantaged community.

How to Apply

You can apply for a rebate at almost any time during the upgrade process—while planning your project, during installation or up to six months after completion. Simply apply and upload all required documents.

Rebate Types

Electrical Panel Upgrade & EV Outlet Installation

Up to $4,200

If your home’s main electrical panel is less than 200 amps and cannot support level 2 EV charging, you may qualify for up to $4,200 toward a panel upgrade and EV outlet installation.

Or

EV Outlet-Only Installation

Up to $1,000

If your home’s main electrical panel is 200 amps or higher and can support Level 2 EV charging, you may qualify for up to $1,000 toward the installation cost of installing a dedicated EV outlet.

You do not need to own or lease an EV before participating in this program.

 

Resident Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for a Charge Ready Home rebate, residents must satisfy one of the following:

Live in a low-income household, defined as a household earning less than 80% of the area median income (AMI), or participate in at least one of the qualifying public assistance programs listed below.

Or

Live in a designated disadvantaged community, defined as a community in the top 25% of communities identified by CalEnviroScreen 4.0.

Qualifying Assistance Programs

You must be enrolled in at least one of the following programs.

  • Bureau of Indian Affairs General Assistance
  • CalWorks (TANF)/tribal TANF
  • GRID Alternatives prequalification
  • Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)
  • Medi-Cal for Families Program (Healthy Families A&B)
  • CalFresh/SNAP (food stamps)
  • Drive Clean in the San Joaquin Replace Program
  • Head Start Income Eligible (tribal only)
  • Medi-Cal (income-qualified Medi-Cal only)
  • Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC)
  • Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
  • Southern California Edison's Pre-Owned EV Program Rebate Plus

Residents must also meet the following requirements:

  • Be an SCE residential customer and provide an SCE account number and service address.
  • Obtain the property owner’s approval before beginning the upgrade or installation if they rent their home.
  • Hire a licensed and bonded contractor to complete all rebate-related work.
  • Obtain all required permits and inspection records.

Installation Requirements

  • Electrical panel upgrade & EV outlet installation: Replace an existing electrical panel rated below 200 amps with a panel rated at 200 amps or higher. Install a dedicated circuit and new 240-volt outlet for Level 2 charging within 25 feet of a dedicated off-street parking space, such as a garage, carport, or driveway.

    Approved participants must install a Level 2 charger within 180 days after receiving the rebate.

  • EV outlet-only installation: Install a dedicated outlet for Level 2 charging within 25 feet of a dedicated off-street parking space. 

    All work must comply with applicable city or county building and safety codes.
